PM Modi Invited to Attend Russia’s Victory Day Parade on May 9
Russia invites PM Modi to attend 80th Victory Day Parade in Moscow; visit under diplomatic discussion.

New Delhi / Moscow: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko has confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been formally invited to participate in Russia’s Victory Day celebrations scheduled for May 9, 2025. The occasion marks the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
As per Russian news agency TASS, Moscow is expecting the Indian Prime Minister’s presence at the parade, and preparations for the visit are currently underway. “He has received the invitation, and we are working on the visit. It should be this year,” said Mr. Rudenko on April 8, 2025.
Russia has extended invitations to several heads of state from friendly nations to commemorate this significant historical milestone.
Victory Day is one of Russia’s most prominent national events. It commemorates the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany on May 9, 1945, following the Soviet offensive launched in January that year. The surrender brought an end to World War II in Europe.
Prime Minister Modi had last visited Russia in July 2024—his first trip to the country in nearly five years—where he attended bilateral discussions with President Vladimir Putin. Before that, his previous visit to Russia was in 2019 when he participated in an economic forum in Vladivostok.
During the 2024 visit, PM Modi extended an invitation to President Putin to visit India, which the Russian President has accepted. However, the specific dates of President Putin’s visit to India are yet to be announced.
PM Modi and President Putin maintain consistent diplomatic engagement, including regular telephone conversations and meetings during global summits and multilateral forums.
